Kieler's Village Bar Supper Club rebuilding, preparing to reopen

KIELER, Wis. — About two months after being heavily damaged in a tornado, a Kieler business is getting back on its feet.

Village Bar Supper Club is hoping to reopen in November, according to Shelley Thumser, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Kurt.

The building’s roof was torn off in July by a brief EF-1 tornado that spawned when a derecho swept through the tri-states.

At first, Thumser was unsure if she would be able to reopen the supper club at all.

Dubuque establishments increasingly welcome dogs on outdoor patios

Throughout the summer, boats cruise the Mississippi River and dock in the harbor at Yardarm Riverfront Bar & Grill in Dubuque, where boaters know their canines will be welcome.

“That’s one of the reasons people like coming here,” said bar supervisor Bama Ohnesorge. “When they’re out on the boats all day, they like to come off here with their dogs.”

Ohnesorge said Yardarm offers paper water bowls and dog snacks for free and grills up doggie burgers for $1 a patty. Bacon or cheese is 50 cents extra.
